Washington County Bicycle Transportation Coalition

Thank you! 2016 Adopt-a-Bike was a Success!

We want to thank all of our donors who made the 2016 Adopt - a - Bike campaign such a success!  Due to weather related issues and schools being closed two days early, our bike presentations at Echo Shaw, Cornelius Elementary and Metzger Elementary schools were postponed. We have re-scheduled for January dates and are keeping our fingers crossed the weather will cooperate enough to allow us to keep the dates. Photos will be published on our website as well as in our monthly newsletter and on our social media sources.

Each year we have representatives from local churches or other organizations who what to sponsor kids from their organizations to be apart of our bike giveaways. For these, we issue gift certificates that will allow them to come into our shop and pick their bike out. Saturday we had the pleasure of helping two young boys recently here from Syria. Their parents are disabled so the boys really needed bikes for commuting to and from school as well as running errands such as grocery shopping for the family. The bikes they picked out didn't have racks on them so from our inventory of used racks they picked them out and proceeded to put them on. The younger of the two boys (age 15 and 16) needed no help and was eager to do the work himself. Note: the photo on the right has a very photo shy teenage boy...and didn't want his face shown.

Metzger Elementary Adopt-a-Bike

The kids at Metzger Elementary School in Tigard received their bikes January 23rd- a month past the original date set in December. By the faces on the kids, they are glad to have them and it looks like they are ready to ride.

We want to thank Principle Todd Farris and Tigard's Safe Route to School representative, Anna Dragovich, for their help (an patience) in making this happen.
