Washington County Bicycle Transportation Coalition: The mission of the WashCo BTC is to promote bicycle transportation, protect bicyclists' rights and improve bicycling conditions throughout Washington County, Oregon through education, advocacy and community.

15 new bikes were donated to give away to people in need who might not otherwise have the opportunity to use a bicycle as part of their lives.
In addition, we have bikes with 12", 16", 20", 24" and 26" wheel sizes that are in excellent shape and part of the "Adopt-a-Bike" program.
The program, in partnership with 3 local non-profits Community Vision, Adelente Mujeres and Foster Closet Inc will match their clients with the bikes and here's how it works:
For the new bikes - the adoption 'fee' is $250. Your donation pays for fenders, carrying rack, lightset, water bottle and cage, helmet, jacket, gloves and lock. We install them and the bike is paired with its new owner. Our cost for this equipment is about $125. The remaining funds go into the WashCo BTC treasury to help sustain the center operations. Clients of Community Vision and those women recognized for their peer leadership in Adelente Mujeres will be recipients of these bikes.
For the slightly used* bikes - the adoption fee is $50. The smaller bikes will be 'accessorized' with helmets and locks, and the larger ones with fenders & lights, too. (*We have 50 bikes that have had little use or wear. Kids sometimes outgrow their bikes too quickly or, conversely, the bike is too big and not ridden much.) Foster Closet kids will be our targeted recipients of these fine steeds.
For all adopted bikes - you have the option of making your generosity known. We can add a card in your name to the donation, which will allow the recipient the choice of thanking you directly. The remaining funds will be used to further the mission and vision of the WashCo BTC
The Adopt a Bike program continues now through December 23rd so we can ensure we serve as many needs as we can. Call the center at 503-356-9740 for more details or to "adopt" a bike.
